The "F" Word: Fitness

This month, (three days ago to be exact), I started Jamie Eason’s LiveFit Three-Phase program for getting into shape. I highly recommend it. It is free and lays out your meal structure and all workouts. Recipes and a food list help to give you some general direction for how your meals should be portioned. Jamie is a great body builder and role model and her program works for all ages and all body types! Of course, you should always consult with a doctor and/or professional before starting any type of exercise program.

I’ve already been doing weight training and have consistently been going to the gym and working out with my trainer since April of this year. It has taken a while but I have seen really great results. That is how it works in the real world without diet pills, fad diets, starving yourself, etc. A healthy body takes TIME and a whole lot of discipline. You have to listen to your body and you also have to push your body a little bit at a time. It is never easy and a lot of the time it isn’t very fun either. But as you make it a habit—believe me, it took months for it to become a habit—it becomes more of an addiction. It becomes a priority. It becomes something you have to do and something you want to do. Or maybe that’s just me? But most of us don’t make it to that point because we give up too easily when we don’t see and feel the results right away. Guess what? I’ve been going at this since April and I still haven’t reached my goal! But I can feel a huge difference.

I don’t necessarily have a weight goal set…I will know when I meet my goal when I feel comfortable enough to confidently wear a bikini and when I can comfortably curl a 20lb. dumbbell. A lot of my friends see my incessant postings on Facebook about my trips to the gym, motivation, body building, healthy eating, etc. A lot of those friends support me and a lot of them are very jealous or feel “put down” by them. Whatever goal you may have in mind, your journey to get there is going to be very different from everyone else’s. I think it is important to support and encourage people no matter what you’re going through, no matter what point you are at in your life.

I want to share my experiences with you in a very realistic way. I’m not going to post a food or workout journal every day and give you a play by play. I’m just going to check in every once in a while and talk about the obstacles that I face and that I have overcome and the things that help me move closer to my goals.

These are a few challenges that I had starting out and have currently:
  • ·       Grocery shopping/cooking for one is so difficult. Food goes bad so quickly and I end up wasting so much money and then just opt to go out to eat anyway.
  • ·       Eating healthy/organic can get expensive.
  • ·       Getting motivated to get my butt in the gym – Obviously! I think we can all relate to that one!
  • ·       The cost of gym memberships was a problem for me initially.
  • ·       Not having structure to workouts and not knowing what to do.
  • ·       Plateauing after a few weeks of a successful routine or regimen
  • ·       Not finding the time to workout.
  • ·       Finding healthy recipes that are appealing and satisfy cravings.

Little by little I am trying to overcome all of these. It is a lot of work but I want it bad enough and that is the only thing that is going to take me through to the end.

What kinds of things are challenging to you?
